After competing in and winning his first full contact fighting competition in 1984, Mr. Jewell became fascinated and soon committed to understanding the principles and realities of all types of combat.  R.E.A.C.T. would become his vision of multiple weapon, empty hand and tactical solutions to successfully overcoming violent attacks  in any environment.

In 1985, along with his wife Tina, they opened and maintained a full time Martial Arts school in Bend Oregon for 14 years. Together they created many State, Regional, National and World Champions in empty hand and weapons fighting, as well as forms categories. Mr. Jewell sought out the best instruction available in any discipline and “tested” what was being learned in competition and on the street serving our communities, this process of application was the beginning of R.E.A.C.T. In 1995 Mr. Jewell reached the level of Bu – Kwan Jang Nim (asst. master instructor) under Master Instructor and multiple time National and World champion kickboxer Sam Montgomery. He also had opportunities to train with the late Stephen Bell, a World renowned Kudokan Master Instructor in both Judo and Ju-Jitsu, and others such as Master Instructor Marcello Alonso in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu, Brazilian Jui-Jitsu Black belt Rey Diego and many others over the years.

Growing up with firearms, while hunting and recreational shooting, learning both the proper safety and usefulness of guns from an early age, the transition to learn to fight with firearms was a natural process of his chosen profession. Seeking professional training and certifications in small arms over his lifetime, with the specific focus of integrating small arms into his empty hand curriculum for professional use while protecting others and the training and certifying of Law Abiding Citizens, Security professionals and Law Enforcement.

Mr. Jewell also has worked with Local, State and  Federal Law Enforcement as well as Military personnel, this experience all continued to shape what is R.E.A.C.T. today in the field, the classroom and the range.

He began teaching his own style of defensive tactics in 1988 to Law Enforcement Officers first through his School, West Coast Martial Arts in Bend Oregon, and later through R.E.A.C.T. and has never stopped learning and helping others to learn how not to just survive, but overcome and succeed in violent confrontations. He has served as an Armed Private Security Professional in both State and Federal capacities, and part time as a Professional Bodyguard since 1995, working with State and Federal Law Enforcement and Judicial entities.

In creating R.E.A.C.T., his goal was to start a process that would encompass everything he had learned, is currently learning and ever would learn into one fluent and ever evolving system to provide the best possible solutions to the question of winning in both physical and deadly force confrontations.

Mr. Jewell is a Master Instructor in all Firearms and Defensive Tactics taught at R.E.A.C.T. Training Systems including, but not limited to, Handgun, Shotgun, Carbine, Empty Hand, Impact Weapon,  O.C., Edged Weapon, Integrated Close Quarter Combat, Control Restraint/Handcuffing and Handgun/Long gun close quarter retention and disarming tactics.

Mr. Jewell still enjoys his first passion regularly teaching Martial Arts at local clubs in Central Oregon when not in the classroom or on the range teaching REACT classes.
